One of the most promised medications in Ayurveda is Triphla Churna and it is widely recommended for building immunity, weight loss, treating pain etc.

Triphla Churna is a powder, combination of three fruits-

Contents –

Dried contents of Triphla Churna


1) Haritaki (Terminalia chebula)
2) Bibhitaka (Terminalia belerica)
3) Amla (Emblica officinalis)

These fruits are dried thoroughly, powdered and mixed in the right proportions to make this preparation.

Chemical composition –

The major constituents of formula are the tannins, gallic acid, ellagic acid and chebulimic acid, which are potent antioxidants that may account for immunomodulatory activity.

Triphla also contains other bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, saponins, anthroquinones, amino acids, fatty acids and various carbohydrates.

Properties –

Triphla is generally used as a mild bowel cleanser as it promotes digestion. The synergistic effect of these three ingredients has a unique potential to detoxify and rejuvenate the body.

Amla in it, has a cooling effect and promotes liver function and boosts immunity.

Bibhitaki promotes the normal functioning of the respiratory system and cleanses the lungs.

Haritaki detoxifies the body and helps in losing weight.

Formulations –
Triphla is available in powder, juice, tincture, extract, capsule, or tablet form.


Dose –
2.5- 7.5 gram once or twice a day with honey or lukewarm water or with ghee .

• Urticaria
• Malaria
• Blood impurity diseases like leprosy
• Eye diseases like cataract
• Rejuvenation Properties

• Promotes weight loss

• Detoxifies the body

• Immunity booster

• Maintain dental health

• Reduces cholestrol

Side-effects –

As Triphla acts as a mild laxative, it may cause gastrointestinal side effects, including gas, stomach upset, cramps and diarrhoea. Depending on the preparation used, side-effects like these may occur with even smaller doses.

If you experience diarrhoea or other side effects, you can try reducing the dose if the symptoms are mild.
