Poppy seeds are small, kidney-shaped seeds derived from the opium poppy plant. These tiny seeds have been used for culinary and medicinal purposes for centuries, adding a distinct flavor and texture to various dishes. The botanical name for the opium poppy plant, from which poppy seeds are derived, is Papaver somniferum. It belongs to the Papaveraceae family, which also includes other flowering plants. Physical Appearance –
