Abortion

Abortion
November 8, 2020Females

An abortion is said to occur when a pregnancy ends before the foetus becomes viable. Abortions are very frequent , with a prevalence of 10-20%. The vital signs of the child are important in the context of the different forms of abortion.

Symptoms –

1) Typical symptom is vaginal bleeding.

2) Abdominal cramp.

3) Sudden loss of pregnancy symptoms like morning sickness.

Types –

There are different types of abortion usually which are misunderstood in one common term abortion.Let’s try to understand the difference between the variety of abortions which are as follows :-

1) Threatened or imminent abortion –

It is generally reversible. Typically patient present with vaginal bleeding and a closed Uterine orifice. The pregnancy is still intact and infant heart sounds are still detectable. Therapy could involve physical rest with administration of magnesium. Injection of Hydroxyprogesterone caproate helps in sustaining pregnancy.

2) Missed Abortion –

It has an asymptomatic course mostly. Usually the diagnosis is made during routine examination. Here, no infant heart sound can be heard. Curettage is the first line therapy in it.

3) Inevitable or incipient Abortion –

It is a developing miscarriage. The uterine orifice is already open due to labor. Typical symptoms are vaginal bleeding with pain in the lower abdomen and absent infant heart sounds. First line Therapy here also is curettage.

4) Incomplete Abortion –

In incomplete abortion , parts of the trophoblast are already shed. The uterine orifice is completely open and infant heart sounds are undetectable. The patient often experience severe vaginal bleeding with pain in the lower abdomen . Here , intervention is also necessary to remove the necrotic trophoblast.

6) Complete Abortion –

In this type of abortion , the embryo is already completely shed making curettage unnecessary . The Uterus becomes rather small and hard .The vaginal bleeding usually get to stop.

Treatment –

Once the conditions told above induced in pregnancy it is hard to stop the pregnancy to shed therefore it is more important to prepare Uterus and all other conditions to get a healthy pregnancy outcome. As already said in classics to get a good crop yield everything before like soil ,seed , land etc. should be in good condition , it means we need a pre preparation before conception. In Ayurveda there are some medicines which helps to give female uterus proper tone to hold the pregnancy till full term.E.g. Ashwagandha , Shatavari ,Garbhpal Ras, Pushyanug churna etc.
