Star fruit is a tropical fruit that originates from Southeast Asia.
This unique fruit gets its name from its distinctive star-shaped cross-section when sliced. Star fruit comes in various varieties, each with a slightly different taste and appearance.
Star fruit is known by different names in various languages and regions:
In Spanish: Carambola
In Malay/Indonesian: Belimbing
In Thai: Ma fueng
In Hindi: Kamrakh

Physical Appearance –
Star fruit has a yellow to greenish-yellow skin with prominent ridges running along its edges.
When sliced, the fruit showcases a perfect five-pointed star shape, making it visually appealing.
The flesh is translucent and ranges from crisp to slightly juicy, depending on the variety.
It’s botanical name is Averrhoa carambola which belongs Oxalidaceae family.

This fruit is a decent source of several nutrients — especially fiber and vitamin C.

Both the skin and flesh of this fruit are edible.
