Bibhitaki or baheda is a large deciduous tree having botanical name Terminalia bellirica is common on plains and lower hills in Southeast Asia, where it is also grown as an avenue tree. It belongs to the Combretaceae family.
Properties –
The fruit of bibhitaki contains a host of plant compounds like
•  beta sitosterol
•  tannins
•  gaelic
•  ethyl
•  elegiac acid
Effects on Doshas –
Bibhitaki helps to pacify all the three doshas specifically it works on Kapha dosha. It supports mainly rasa(plasma), mamsa(muscle), and asthi(bone) dhatu.

Fruit rind, seeds, and seed kernels of Bibhitaki are used for medicinal purposes.
Dosage –
3-6 gm is the standard dose of bibhitaki powder for medicinal purposes.

Health Benefits –
• Boost Immunity
As bibhitaki is having antioxidant and bioactive ingredients in it, due to which it holds high significance in preventing infections, makes the immune system strong, and uplifts overall health and wellness.
• Destressor
Due to the presence of ethanolic extracts present in the fruit, it acts as a good antidepressant and relieves the affected person.
• Prevents metabolic disorder
A metabolic syndrome is a group of conditions characterized by elevated blood pressure, blood sugar, and obesity which can increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes. This fruit works all these conditions and helps in getting rid of all that.
• Healing wounds
The antimicrobial properties of this fruit help to prevent the growth of microorganisms over the wound thus helping in healing wounds.
• Improves digestion
With its powerful digestive properties bibhitaki fruit not only does helps to eliminate abdominal gas but also plays an important role in treating a host of gastrointestinal anomalies like constipation, indigestion, gastritis, stomach ulcer, etc.
• Good for hair problems
It helps in treating various scalp and hair infections like folliculitis, itching, and dandruff. It also nourishes the hair follicles, promotes blood circulation, and strengthens the hair strands from the roots to the tips. It also prevents hair fall and breakage due to stress and anxiety.
• Improves liver health
Due to its hepatoprotective nature, it promotes liver health by lowering lipid peroxidation, liver fibrosis, and detoxifying the liver.
Side Effects –
Overdose of anything could give bad results. If Bibhitaki is taken in overdose it could loss of stomach, ulcers bleed, nausea, vomiting, and weakness.
Pregnant women are strictly contraindicated to take this medicine.
