Lavangadi Vati
Lavangadi Vati is an Ayurvedic preparation, which is used for relieving persistent cough, sore throat, congestion, and other allergic respiratory issues. It aids in reducing throat irritation, dilutes the thick mucus in the lungs and soothes the airways.
The key ingredient of this vati is clove that is known to pacify Kapha dosha. This is credited to have antispasmodic, antiseptic and carminative traits.
Ingredients & Preparation –
• Laung (clove) -1 part
• Kali Mirch (Black Pepper) – 1 part
• Bibhitaki (Bahera) – 1 part
• Katha (Catechu extract) – 3 parts
• Babul bark – as required
In a stone, mortar add all the first 4 ingredients and make a fine powder.
Prepare decoction taking 1part of babul bark and 10 parts of water in a pan, boil well until decoction reduces to ¼ part, filter the concoction, and allow it to cool.
Add this decoction in a mortar with a herbal mixture, grind to a fine powder using pestle for about 12 hours. Then make it to tablets each of a pea-size.

Dosage –

• Children: ½ tablet, To be taken thrice daily with water

• Persistent Cough
Lavangadi vati is extremely valuable for treating the persistent attacks of cough by easing throat irritation and soothing airways. It can be used for both types of coughs- productive and non-productive cough. The use of Yastimadhu and Sitopaladi churna along with lavangadi vati is beneficial in treating non-productive cough. While Talisadi churna when combined with lavangadi vati helps in alleviating productive cough.
• Pharyngitis / Tonsillitis
Ayurveda strongly suggests the use of this churna in the treatment of pharyngitis and tonsillitis. The natural soothing effect of the herbal ingredients’ aids in mitigating symptoms of sore throat and tonsillitis. While it also averts the formation of peritonsillar abscesses in the throat. It works best when taken along with Sitopaladi Churna, Gandhak Rasayana and Yashad Bhasma.
• Mouth Ulcer or stomatitis
