Sariva

Shwet Sariva or Anantmool is a semi-erect shrub found throughout India from upper Gangetic plains eastwards to Assam, throughout Central, Western, and Southern India. It’s botanical name is Hemidesmus indicus which belongs to Asclepiadiaceae family. It is also known as Indian sarsaparilla.
Chemical Constituents –
Shwet sariva contains essential oil, Starch, Coumarin, Tannic acid, Triterpenoid saponins, Hemidesmin. The stem is rich in Glycosides such as Indicine and Hemidine, Pregnane glycoside such as Hemidescine and Emidine.

Part Used –
Root of Sariva is beneficial to use for medicinal purposes.
Dosage –
• Decoction – 40-80 ml
• Root powder – 1-3 gm
• Paste – 2-4 grams,
Benefits –
• Menstrual Disorder
If there is irregularity in the menstrual cycle such as oligomenorrhea, dysmenorrhea etc. then mix honey in the decoction of Sariva (anantmool plant). Drinking it in the amount of 15-30 ml.

• Respiratory Problems
It is an excellent medicine for the respiratory problems such as asthma. For the treatment of asthma, mix 4 grams powder of Sariva churna and Adusa leaf. Add 2-4 grams of milk to this mixture and use it twice a day.
• Jaundice
Grind 2 grams powder of sariva root bark and 11 pieces black pepper with 25 ml water. By drinking this mixture continuously for seven days, yellowing of eyes and body ends. It also removes the problem of loss of appetite and fever due to jaundice.

• Increases breast milk
Taking 1-3 grams powder of Sariva root in the morning and evening purifies the breasts. Its consumption increases the amount of milk in the breast.
• Abortion
If a pregnant woman is afraid of miscarriage, then the consumption of Sariva root is beneficial. For this, make a mixture by mixing milk and sugar candy in 15-30 ml of sariva decoction.
• Kidney Stone
Take 5 grams powder of Sariva root. Taking it with cow’s milk twice a day ends kidney stones. Its consumption is also very beneficial in the case of urinary tract infection.
• Arthritis
Due to rheumatism or arthritis, there is often pain in the joints between the bones. Take 3 grams powder of the root of Sariva plant with honey thrice a day.

• Blood Purifier
Mixing one spoon powder of Sariva root in one spoon white cumin seed and taking it after making a decoction purifies the blood.
Pitta disorders are also calmed by its consumption.
• Leprosy
In diseases like itching, leprosy, which can be improved by purification of blood, the use of Sariva is beneficial. For this, grind 30 grams of Sariva with barley and cook it in one liter of water. If the eighth part of this solution remains, then filter it. Mix sugar candy in 10-30 ml quantity. Consuming this decoction improves itching and leprosy.
• Fever
In case of any type of fever, make a decoction by taking equal quantity of Sariva root, khus, dry ginger, kutki and nagarmotha. Boil this decoction till one eighth part remains.
• Baldness
It is a boon for people who have lost their head hair. Taking 2 grams powder of its root with water thrice a day is beneficial in baldness.

• Eye Diseases
Washing the eyes with the decoction of Sariva or applying honey mixed with the decoction is beneficial in various diseases of the eyes.
